Guyana - Getting Around
From the Airport:
Cheddi Jogan International Airport is 40 km from Georgetown, at Timehri. Taxis into town cost around US$20-25 but agree a fee with the driver first. Minibuses to the centre cost about US$1 and for a small extra charge will take you to your hotel, but are not recommended at night- time.
By Air:
Internal flights are the best way to get around Guyana, and the charter company TGA offers the best services, bookable through Wilderness Explorers. Flights are booked weeks in advance, so make reservations well before arriving in Guyana. Other charter companies include Air Services Ltd, Rorcuma Airways and Kayman Sancar. An airstrip at Ogle, about 20 minutes from the centre of Georgetown, is used for domestic flights.
By Bus:
A network of cheap but slow minibuses and shared taxis operate along the coast and to many destinations inland. The minibuses start from Stabroek Market, and leave when they are full, with no fixed timetable. Taxis have an H in their number plates.
By Boat:
Guyana has over 965 km of navigable waterways. There are frequent boat services but they tend to be erratic. Ballahoos are six-seater boats, corials are four-seaters.
