Guyana Food

Guyanese cuisine is generally good and varied, combining influences from the Caribbean, creole, African, European, North American, Amerindian and Asian populations. Seafood is particularly tasty, and some creole dishes are interesting, including pepperpot (meat stewed with spices and cassava juice), which is the traditional Christmas dish, cow-heel soup and saltfish.

Delicious tropical fruits and vegetables are served in some of the many juice bars around Georgetown.

Many restaurants close on public holidays and cheaper places are often open only at lunchtimes. Formal dress may be demanded in some of the capital's upscale restaurants.
