The New Yorkers (Tony & Steve)- Adventures in Alberta

With the jubilant and triumphant smiles on their faces, you would think that they had pedalled all the way from the Big Apple to Alberta as part of their travel adventures. Not quite, they flew. The smiles on their faces expressed the good times they had in Alberta.

Although there was no Times Square or Webster Hall with four levels of dance floors in New York city, Tony Azeem and Steve Tammero were ready to see what Alberta had to offer.

Checking out the Caribbean Restaurants & Clubs

After touching down and clearing customs at the Edmonton International airport, the New Yorkers did not want to waste a moment and were ready for some action. It was only 11:00pm and the night had only just begun. From the airport, Tony and Steve stopped in to visit one of Tony’s cousin and by midnight they were at a Caribbean club called “A Touch of Caribbean,” where they spent a night playing pool, enjoying the beverages and exotic Caribbean dishes while listening to Caribbean music and checking out the sites on the dance floor. The following day they stopped in at “118 Tropical Food Store & Restaurant” for Caribbean drinks and snacks and later had some East Indian food at Maurya’s Palace in Millwoods. The following day they spent an unforgettable day at West Edmonton mall. Because of the G-8 summit in Kananaskis, Tony and Steve changed their plans to visit Banff and headed towards Jasper to avoid the heavy traffic in Calgary.

A view of Jasper and Nature

Not only does Steve Tammero wear a tatoo of a bear on his arm, but he came face to face with a small black bear, from a distance that is, being aware to keep his distance, as he snapped some pictures. Close up snap shots of the elks were also taken as the New Yorkers enjoyed the ride to the Rocky Mountains in Jasper.

Living on the Edge

After a week of sightseeing and indulging in Caribbean, East Indian and Italian food, it was time to work off the extra calories as the New Yorkers headed for the bike trails at Rundel Park. Getting in touch with nature was a treasure, stealing a week away from the hustle and bustle of the Big Apple, where skyscrapers stretches in all directions for miles and miles as Manhattan wakes up to millions of people from all walks of life. While coming back on the dirt trails and doing some stunts on their bicycles off the sides of walls, Steve’s bike took a wrong turn plunging off the trails. It looked as though Steve had landed at the bottom of the cliff and into the water, hurting himself, but his great manuevering skills on the bike kept him from plunging all the way down. As the others rushed to help, Steve had a big smile on his face. He had hoisted his bike in the air fetching it out of the bushes from below. Talk about living on the edge.

After a calm, peaceful and tranquil week away from the hustle and bustle of the Big Apple, it was time for Steve and Tony to head back East with smiles on their faces expressing the good times they had in Alberta. The New Yorkers do plan on visiting Alberta again to spend more time at West Edmonton Mall and to also visit Calgary and Banff.
